CEP 2026 – Day 3: Finding Your Leadership Voice

Equate Scotland's Career Enhancement Programme 2026 all 16 participants and 2 facilitators all cheering of the success

Career Enhancement Programme 2026

There was a moment on Day 3 that captured the spirit of the entire Career Enhancement Programme.

One by one, all 16 participants stood up to deliver a five-minute talk about their career journey and leadership approach. Many were nervous. Some were stepping far outside their comfort zones. But every single participant spoke with honesty, courage and authenticity — and just as importantly, they were met with encouragement, empathy and support from the room.

By the end of the session, it was clear: this was more than a presentation exercise. It was a moment of transformation.

Reflection, Growth and Looking Back

The final day of the Career Enhancement Programme (CEP) 2026 brought together everything participants had explored — from self-awareness and communication to teamwork and leadership in action.

The day began with reflection on the journey so far. Participants revisited key insights from Day 2 and shared what they had already begun applying in their professional lives.

For some, the impact had been immediate.

“After Day 1, it really helped me prepare for an interview for a promotion — which I got!”

Participants also reflected on the importance of the programme environment in enabling that growth.

“What I liked most about the programme is gelling with the team in an open and inclusive environment which inspired me to open up and think about my ability and development.”

Exploring Leadership: There Is No One Way

A key theme of the day was demystifying leadership. Through a range of frameworks and discussions, participants explored different leadership styles and approaches, alongside the importance of emotional intelligence.

They examined qualities such as self-awareness, empathy, adaptability and communication — all essential components of effective leadership.

One of the most powerful takeaways was the realisation that leadership is not one-size-fits-all.

“It has opened my eyes to future opportunities and that there isn’t just one way or personality to be successful.”

Participants used structured tools and questionnaires to reflect on their own leadership styles, values and strengths.

“What I will take away from the programme is to carve out time for self-reflection. There is no ‘best’ way to be a leader — as long as we understand our strengths and how to work with others.”

Learning from Experience: Guest Speaker Insight

Participants also heard from guest speaker Gwen Wilkie, Landscape Architect at Forestry and Land Scotland.

Gwen shared her journey to becoming a lead landscape architect, speaking openly about navigating her career as a working mother. She reflected on overcoming self-doubt, building confidence over time, and balancing the demands of work and family life.

Her story strongly resonated with participants, reinforcing that leadership journeys are rarely linear — and that resilience, self-belief and adaptability are key.

Leadership in Practice: Sharing Our Stories

The participant presentations remained a defining moment of the day.

Each five-minute talk offered a unique insight into individual journeys — from overcoming self-doubt to redefining what leadership means in different roles and industries.

Participants not only developed their communication and storytelling skills, but also recognised shared experiences within the group.

“One woman concentrating insecurities for years can be lifted and empowered by a group sharing the same — getting individually and communally ‘healed’.”

These moments created a powerful sense of connection and collective growth, as participants began to truly own their voice and leadership identity.

Shifting Perspectives on Leadership

For many, the programme fundamentally changed how they view leadership.

“I was nervous at the beginning as I don’t manage people, but the course has taught me that leadership is not just managing people — it’s how you handle situations and make decisions.”

This shift reflects a core message of the programme: leadership is not defined by job title, but by how we show up, influence others and navigate challenges.

An Empowering and Transformative Experience

The impact of the programme was clear in participants’ final reflections.

“It’s been a hugely empowering course that I think will influence who I am and who I will grow to be in both my professional and personal life.”

“I genuinely feel this course has changed my life. It has exceeded all expectations.”

Participants also highlighted the supportive and energising atmosphere created throughout the programme.

“I loved the atmosphere of the sessions and the energy of the organisers and facilitators. It has been an uplifting learning experience.”

Looking Ahead

As the programme came to a close, participants were encouraged to define their next steps — continuing their leadership journey beyond CEP.

The results speak for themselves:

  • 100% participant satisfaction
  • Over two-thirds interested in a follow-up or reunion session

But beyond the numbers, the true success lies in the confidence, clarity and connection built over the three days.

“Thank you for creating this opportunity and working so hard for it.”

From those first nervous presentations to the final reflections, Day 3 showed just how far participants had come.

And more importantly — how far they are ready to go.
