Organisations

Equate Scotland has over twenty years of experience in promoting equality, diversity and inclusion (EDI) in the workplace in STEM sectors across Scotland.

Knowing where to start with EDI activities can be difficult, as can scaling up equality efforts to create genuine and sustainable culture change. With our expertise, we can support you to develop learning and capacity no matter where you are on your EDI journey.

Whether you are coming to equality, diversity, and inclusion work through consideration of skills shortages, retention issues or the desire to create an inclusive culture and enhance productivity – we are here to support your organisation and your employees.

Consultancy

Every STEM organisation we work with have a different EDI journey, with different goals and resources available. Our consultancy service reflects the fact that there is no one-size-fits-it-all when it comes to diversity and inclusion in the workplace. We work with each partner organisation to identify the right level of support they need and offer tangible solutions they can implement to enhance positive and sustainable change within their organisation.

Talent Attraction Support

Equate Scotland supports employers with the attraction of women into STEM, Construction and Built Environment roles through multiple projects. Our Experiential Learning Events are targeted at women and minority groups which allow employers to get involved. We help address inequality and underrepresentation issues throughout the whole recruitment stage from reviewing employers’ recruitment practices, the use of inclusive language in recruitment materials, to advising on interviewing and selection.  Our services also allow employers to show their commitment to creating a more diverse workplace while accessing a niche network of women studying, working, or looking to work in STEM.

Training & workshops

Training is a common and effective tool organisations can use to build a more inclusive and diverse workplace. We have a catalogue of training sessions that are commonly requested by STEM organisations, but we also develop bespoke training to address specific needs. All our workshops are interactive in style. We want every course we run to have an impact on the organisation, not just on the training day itself which is why our training goes beyond basic awareness raising which often has little impact. We believe training is an opportunity to discuss complex issues, ask challenging questions and start elaborating an action plan for your organisation.

Sponsorship

There are various opportunities for organisations to engage with Equate Scotland and show their support to the wider community of STEM women in Scotland. You can sponsor one of our events, become a speaker, or provide us with a space to host some of our events. We also welcome new ideas and are constantly looking to develop new partnerships!

Partnership

Employers We’ve Worked With

We’re proud to have partnered with more than 50 employers over the past five years, working together to advance gender equality and create more inclusive workplaces. Here are some of the employers we’ve worked with.

What Organisations Say

“The Unconscious Bias workshop aligned perfectly with SECTT’s diversity and inclusion goals, which focus on creating a more inclusive work environment, fostering innovation, and enhancing our organisational culture. It raised our employees’ awareness and equipped them with practical skills and techniques to interrupt and reconsider their thoughts, helping to mitigate bias, challenge unfair treatment, and make fair, well-informed decisions.

We would highly recommend this training to other organisations. Through a balance of directed learning and interactive discussion, it helps participants understand the concept of bias, recognise how it can influence their everyday actions, and develop the confidence and strategies to reflect on and improve their decision-making processes.”

“Equate Scotland delivered training to staff involved in developing our apprenticeship frameworks to improve their understanding of gender bias in languageThe training highlighted that the choice of language in job adverts or apprenticeship frameworks can impact on the likelihood of women applyingMaking small changes to our language is one of the steps that we can take to encourage applications from women to apprenticeships in male-dominated sectorsThis learning could be useful in a number of areas and would be particularly useful to employers who wish to review their job adverts to ensure they are inclusive. The training is evidence-based and was delivered by knowledgeable, professional trainers who were able to adapt to the needs of our staff.  It was positively received and we are actively using the learning in our work, we would recommend this training to others.”

Equate Scotland recently delivered a series of CPD sessions for our apprenticeship learning providers. 100% of those who responded to our feedback survey said that they would recommend the training to others, with one provider providing the following statement, “it was really fabulous training and more of this is needed for all staff.”

For us, participation was about playing a role in supporting women locally, being open about lived experiences, and helping to demystify careers in industries that are not traditionally female‑dominated.

Being able to speak openly about Fair Work, women’s experiences in male‑dominated industries, and individual career journeys reinforced our belief that organisations have a responsibility to share learning and support others in the sector.

We have enjoyed and benefited greatly from partnering with Equate to deliver various green energy programmes for the construction industry. Equate have helped us reach a wider audience of women either entering or interested in the construction industry. The cohorts we’ve delivered training to through equate have been some of the most enthusiastic, inquisitive, and engaged learners we’ve had the pleasure of working with at BE-ST. This speaks volumes to the great work that Equate do in creating inclusive spaces for women in STEM.

The collaboration between ConStructEd Scotland and Equate Scotland is now delivering outcomes beyond our earliest imaginations and continues to deliver impact across all participants whether student or professional.
