1. What is the theme of the event?
The event focuses on Retrofitting Skills—equipping participants with both theoretical knowledge and practical experience in sustainable construction and retrofit techniques.
2. When is the event taking place?
The proposed dates are:
– Day 1 (Online): 1st October 2025 9:30-12:35
– Day 2 (On-site): 2nd October 2025 9:30-16:45
– Day 3 (On-site): 3rd October 2025 9:30-16:10
3. Who should attend this event?
This event is ideal for:
- Women and individuals from underrepresented backgrounds who are living, studying, or working in Scotland and are interested in exploring careers in sustainable construction
- Individuals who are new to the construction or retrofit sector and want to gain introductory knowledge of retrofitting and how buildings work
- Those who are eager to gain hands-on experience in construction and practical retrofit techniques in a supportive and inclusive environment
As spaces are limited, applications will be reviewed and shortlisted by Equate Scotland staff. To support our mission, we welcome applicants from all underrepresented backgrounds, and aim to prioritise women, non-binary individuals, and people from underrepresented gender groups in construction and related fields. Selection will be based on the quality of your responses, your individual circumstances, and a first-come, first-served basis, in line with the purpose and funding of the programme.

Please note that this event may not be suitable for the following individuals:
- Experienced technical professionals already working in the construction or retrofit sector
- Individuals under the age of 19
- Individuals who are not currently residing in Scotland
5. What does each day involve?
Day 1 – Online Workshops
- Introduction from BE-ST and Equate
- Online theory modules with live support from BE-ST team
Day 2 – On-site Training @ BE-ST Campus
- Introductory practical construction skills
- Understanding how buildings work
- Groupwork and communication in construction
- Changeworks panel discussion
Day 3 – On-site Retrofit Training @ BE-ST Campus
- Assertive communication workshops
- Hands-on and classroom-based retrofit training
- Topics include:
– Retrofit principles
– Co-benefits (climate, health, finances)
– Insulation, ventilation, and renewable heat
– Air tightness
– Common pitfalls and best practices
6. What should I bring for the on-site days?
- Comfortable clothing suitable for practical work
- Safety gear if specified (details will be provided in advance)
- Notebook or device for taking notes
7. Will there be support during the online and onsite sessions?
Absolutely! Members of the Equate Scotland and BE-ST teams will be available throughout all three days of the event to answer questions, offer support, and provide guidance whenever needed.
8. Is travel or accommodation provided?
Equate Scotland may be able to cover reasonable travel and accommodation expenses where necessary. However, as funding is limited, we encourage participants to plan and cover their own travel and/or accommodation costs where possible. Each request for support will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis, with priority given to applicants who demonstrate financial need.
9. What expenses are not covered by Equate Scotland?
While we are happy to cover the cost of hotel accommodation for up to two nights per participant, this will be assessed based on individual circumstances. Please note that incidental expenses, such as meals, drinks, or other personal charges during your stay, cannot be reimbursed.
10. Are food and drinks provided during the 2 on-site training days?
Yes, lunch and refreshments will be provided on both on-site training days.
11. If my application has not been successful, can I apply again?
Please note that we are unable to accept 2nd or multiple submissions. However, we encourage you to explore and apply for other upcoming learning opportunities hosted by Equate Scotland.
13. How are applications considered and approved?
Equate Scotland will prioritise applications from women and individuals from underrepresented backgrounds in Scotland. All applications will be reviewed based on the quality of responses and individual circumstances, and places will be allocated on a first-come, first-served basis.

15. Do I have to attend all three days of the event?
Yes. To ensure the best experience for all participants and to maximise the impact of the programme, we strongly encourage full attendance across all three days of the event.
16. What qualifications would I gain from this event?
Participants who attend all three days and complete the feedback survey will receive a digital certificate of completion, jointly issued by BE-ST and Equate Scotland.
