The theme of Equate’s 2024 Student conference is “Know Your Worth”, this theme was chosen by our Equate Student Network. It will be on the 21st of February at Heriot-Watt, Edinburgh, from 10 am until 4 pm.
Our Student Champions at universities across Scotland are co-creators and co-producers of the conference and have decided together on all the workshops and panel sessions. By bringing together students, organisations, and professionals we hope to inspire the next generation of STEM workers to recognise and celebrate the value they bring to the STEM ecosystem.
There will be a number of panel sessions and workshops that will happen throughout the day. After a keynote speech from Heriot-Watt and a launch of our next ConstructEd Experiential learning event, students will have the option to join one of three panels happening concurrently.
One panel will be on experiences of being a woman or other minoritised gender in construction, another on employee networks, and finally a panel on how student societies can support you in starting your STEM career.
After a networking lunch, we have a talk on Knowing Your Rights in the Workplace, followed by two concurrent workshops on how to talk about your achievements and how students can create an impactful career for themselves.
We will wrap up the day with an interactive team activity, a presentation of our STEMinist Awards to a student and a student society winner, and a final keynote speech from Andrea Nolan, the Principal and Vice-Chancellor of Edinburgh Napier University.
