Constructed 2022 student holding wind turbine

Perhaps you will be the project manager, or you will take control of health and safety, or maybe you will be up in the crane adding the blades to the turbine. Whichever role you take – this project will give you:

  • Invaluable hands-on practical skills and experience – great for the CV!
  • Experience managing a site and coordination of activities
  • Experience working with different materials and tolerances
  • Improved understanding of technical documentation and how interdependencies work in a real environment
  • Team working, communication, problem-solving and decision making and project management skills
  • A chance to build your network and meet other students and people working in the engineering and construction sectors

No previous experience is required – you will be assisted by professional engineers and construction workers, and mentored by staff from Balfour Beaty, Jacobs and Equate. PPE will be provided, and the purchase of steel toecap boots will be funded.

This programme is fully funded including travel and accommodation (if required). The programme takes place in Blackridge, West Lothian.

Kimberley Ross, West Lothian College, HNC Built Environment student said ‘this is the most beneficial 3 days of my studying career so far.  I learnt so much more than I ever thought I would in such little time!

Kelly Mullarkey, Open University, BSc Environmental Engineering said ‘the experience was exhausting, informative and empowering.  I gained confidence in working with people I had never met and was proud of the team for pulling together and getting the job done’.
