Connecting, Creating, and Collaborating at Development Day

Student Champions Development Day 2025

Equate Scotland was delighted to welcome our 2025–2026 Student Champion Cohort for their first in-person Development Day, hosted at the beautiful My Edinburgh venue this week.

This year’s cohort brought together passionate students from universities and colleges across Scotland, all committed to supporting and encouraging under-represented groups in STEM.

Throughout the day, our champions took part in a packed and interactive programme led by Eugenia, Ellen, and Alice from the Equate team.

Together, they:

  • Received hands-on training in event planning, event marketing, and applying for funding

  • Developed and presented ‘Elevator Pitches’ for pilot events designed to engage under-represented students in STEM

  • Brainstormed event ideas, shared practical tips, and exchanged experiences from their institutions

“Collaborating in a team to pitch an event really got my brain thinking about new ideas and ways of working.”

“I learned how much behind-the-scenes work goes into planning a successful event.”

“Networking with other Student Champions and hearing from those with past experience was the best part of the day.”

“The marketing and communications session was so valuable — lots of great advice from someone who’s been there.”

The Development Day helped our Student Champions build confidence, strengthen their planning skills, and connect with others who share their passion for inclusion and representation in STEM.

We can’t wait to see the creative and impactful events they’ll deliver across Scotland this year — supporting more students to see themselves in science, technology, engineering, and maths.

💜 Stay tuned for updates on their upcoming activities and success stories throughout the year.
