Applications now open: PassivHaus in Practice Immersive Training

Applications are now open for PassivHaus in Practice Immersive Training.

The learning event will encompass a 1-day online training in Passivhaus design and standards using immersive learning techniques, a 2.5-hour session with Equate Scotland, followed by one day in the CSIC Innovation factory using Passivhaus rigs, where learners will gain hands-on experience to develop their practical skills.

The construction sector is gearing up for major change with a particular focus on reducing carbon emissions in order to achieve net-zero carbon targets by 2045. Key to this transformation is the requirement to improve energy efficiency in existing buildings.

Equate Scotland in partnership with the Construction Scotland Innovation Centre are delighted to offer a 3-day blended immersive learning experience for women in 3rd or 4th year of a built environment subject at undergraduate level, HNC/HND college level and career changers.

The aim of the training is to upskill/reskill women in the latest low carbon construction techniques and who are looking to enter or progress their career in the construction sector. Some previous knowledge of construction and/or engineering practices and terminology is required.

Day 1: Monday 26th July – 9 am-3.30 pm (1 x full day online)

3 online modules, certification upon completion.
0900 – 0930: Introduction and instructions of online modules.
0930 – 1130: attendees will be given the chance to go off and undertake the modules, Kirsty will be available and will keep the call link live for any questions. The modules cover:

  • Principles of PassivHaus
  • Passivhaus in practice
  • History of PassivHaus

1130 – 1200:discussion and question time
1300 – 1530 Equate session:

  • Diversity & Inclusion in Construction
  • Future Skills in Construction
  • What recruiters are looking for
  • Career Paths presentations from women professionals working in Construction and who are PassivHaus certified.
  • An overview of Equate Scotland women in STEM support services

Day 2: Tuesday 27th July – 9am-12 noon (1 x half day online)

BRE Introduction to Passivhaus half-day online training, certification upon completion

  • Introduction/awareness
  • How to build a PH
  • 5 Pillars of Passivhaus
  • Heating system
  • Certification requirements

Day 3: Wednesday 28th July – 10am-3pm (1 x full day in person)

Rig training at CSIC Innovation factory – 4 different rig constructions:

  • Demonstrating airtightness
  • Demonstrating thermal barrier and low thermal bridging
  • Evaluation of performance

All travel incurred by attendees to and from the CSIC Innovation Factory on Wednesday 28th July will be fully reimbursed by Equate Scotland.

Skills in Passivhaus have never been more in demand and are essential to reduce carbon and improve air quality for more energy-efficient buildings. This presents a significant opportunity for more women to enter and progress in the construction sector. Note this course is certificated but attendance does mean you are PassivHaus Certified.
